Build the Life Anyway - Even If Nobody Around You Understands It

3 min read

There comes a moment in every person's healing journey when they realize something uncomfortable:

The people around them may never understand the life they are trying to build.

Not because the dream is wrong.

Not because the path is foolish.

Not because they are incapable.

But because they are attempting something that falls outside the boundaries of what others have chosen for themselves.

And that can be lonely.

When you begin changing your life, you often expect resistance from strangers. What surprises most people is the resistance that comes from those closest to them.

The friends who question their decisions.

The family members who offer unsolicited warnings.

The partner who cannot understand why you need more.

The coworkers who mock your dreams.

The people who love you yet still cannot see what you see.

You begin to realize that understanding and support are not always the same thing. And that sometimes, your greatest act of courage is continuing forward without either.

Most People Can Only See Through The Lens Of Their Own Experience

A person who has never left their hometown may not understand why you feel called to travel.

A person who has never healed may not understand why you need solitude.

A person who has settled for less may not understand why you refuse to.

A person who has abandoned their own dreams may feel uncomfortable watching you pursue yours.

People often interpret your choices through the lens of their own fears.

Their own regrets.

Their own limitations.

Their own wounds.

That does not make them bad people. It simple means they are viewing your future through the map of their past.

And no one can navigate your soul's path with someone else's map.

The Cost Of Constant Explanation

Many people spend years trying to gain approval before taking action.

Explaining

Justifying

Convincing

Defending

Seeking permission

Waiting for everyone to understand

Waiting for everyone to agree

Waiting for everyone to cheer them on

But if your life requires unanimous approval before you begin living it, you will remain trapped in someone else's version of success.

Sometimes the people around you only understand your choices after they see the results. And sometimes they never understand them at all.

Neither determinds whether your path is correct.

You Are Allowed To Want Something Different

You are allowed to want a slower life.

A bigger life.

A quieter life.

A more adventurous life.

A life centered around creativity.

A life centered around family.

A life centered around freedom.

You are allowed to leave what no longer nourishes you.

You are allowed to pursue what brings your spirit alive.

You are allowed to build a life that reflects your values rather than someone else's expectations.

The purpose of your life is not to become understandable. The purpose of your life is to become authentic.

Your Future Self Is Asking You To Trust Her

Every meaningful decision arrives before the evidence.

Before the certainty.

Before the guarantees.

Before the applause.

The woman you are becoming can already see what the current version of you cannot. She knows why you needed to leave.

Why you needed to start over.

Why you needed to say no.

Why you needed to disappoint people.

Why you needed to choose yourself.

She is standing further down the road, waiting patiently for you to trust what she already knows.

Let Them Be Confused

Not everyone is meant to understand your path.

Some people are:

  • Simply witnesses to it

  • Temporary companions

  • Teachers

  • Mirrors

  • Reminders of what happens when we abandon ourselves

You do not need to drag everyone into agreement. You do not need to convince anyone that your dreams matter. You do not need to make your calling digestible for people who were never meant to carry it.

You only need enough courage to keep walking.

Build the life.

Take the class.

Move to the city.

Leave the relationship.

Start the business.

Heal the wound(s).

Book the trip.

Write the book.

Plant the garden.

Follow the whisper.

The people who are meant to understand will eventually find you. And until then?

Build the life anyway.

Closing Blessing

May you stop shrinking your dreams to fit inside someone else's comfort zone.

May you trust the quiet wisdom that continues to call you forward.

May you release the need to be understood by those who cannot yet see what your soul already knows.

May you have the courage to disappoint expectations rather than abandon yourself.

And, may the life you build become living proof that authenticity is far more powerful than approval.

Build it anyway.

Trust it anyway.

Become her anyway.
